I really liked this book. It started out kind of dull and I was thinking ” oh boy another required English book. Whoopee. 🙁 ” but as the book got going it got pretty interesting. It was entertaining to see the kids trying to get Boo Radley to come out. I also liked watching Scout grow as a character, she started out as a bit of a terrorist child but as she goes through more stuff she begins to grow up a little bit. I think it kind of got over exaggerated in how amazing and life changing it is. I didn’t receive any outstanding personal revelation about the meaning of life while I was reading like I was expecting but it was definitely a good, well written book.
I didn’t get the chance to watch the whole movie because I was gone but the parts that I did see where very well done. Most movies screw up the story but I felt like this one was a very good, accurate representation of the book. The actors did a very good job of showing the characters. I really liked the trial, Atticus was excellent. The actor who played him did a really good job, that is exactly like I pictured the trial going in the book.
I would advise all junior high and older kids to read the book and watch the movie. I wouldn’t give it to younger kids because they would have a harder time understanding. It really illustrates how the South was back then and how it still is in some parts.
