Work Will Work When Wishy Washy Wishing Will Not

At the beginning of the year my goal was to get better at writing essays. Over the last years in junior high I have not done very well in my essay writing, last year I never got an A on an essay I averaged around a B-. So this year I made it my goal to put in more time and thought into my essays so that I could get most A’s on the essays. This year my essay writing has greatly improved I have never got below an A- on any writing assignment this year.

I feel like I could still improve in my annotating. I haven’t really found a love for annotating and so it makes it hard to get into it. I am going to try to really engage in the articles we are annotating and add lots of ROAM+ Predict. I am hoping that by the end of this year I will average an A on all my annotating assignments.

Climbing into Other People’s Skin

Atticus wants Scout to be able see the world from different points of view. Scout thinks that everyone is out to get her and that the world is all messed up. He wants her to try and see things from other people’s views so she can understand why they would think or say something that they did. This will help her to not judge everyone as much, she can know why they are doing the things that they are. Scout is pretty ignorant to the situations of other people at the beginning and so Atticus is trying to widen her perspective and get her to understand the world outside of herself a little bit better.

I try to do this on some occasions but it isn’t really something that I just do, I have to think about it. When I do this I find that it is fairly helpful, I am not as quick to judge someone if I think about what they might be going through.

The Book I Chose

The Help, Kathryn Stockett, 444

My mom read this and said it was very good so I want to see for myself.

I don’t really know what to expect, I’ve heard it’s good so I hope it is.

Promoting Change

Is it our responsibility to promote change in society? I think that it is our responsibility to promote change. It is our job to get our ideas out there. Our country was built upon giving people the power to make laws, change laws, and shape our country into something that is better for everyone. If you feel strongly about something you should go out and try and make others feel the same. If people don’t go out and talk about their opinions that is when we get into really bad arguments. If we just went out and talked about it before we jump on social media and totally burn the other side then there would be a lot less fighting in our world. It is good to talk about all the different ideas, we need to listen to others as well as present our ideas. If everyone would go out and try to give their ideas in a peaceful way there would be less fighting and the world would be a better place.

The Search for the Perfect Book

The life of Pi. This book caught my attention because I like books with animals in and so that was the first thing that caught my attention. I also was interested in but never saw the movie and so I want to know more about this story. When I got reading some of the reviews there was a lot of controversy opinions, some people said they hated it, others said they loved it. It sounds like a very interesting story, a lot of people said that it was very gory in some parts. They said that the only interesting parts were gory. That was another thing that made me want to read it. I want to decided for myself if it is a good book. So I’m going to give it a try and see how it is.

Reading Update!

I am almost finished with The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. It has been such a good book so far, I can’t wait to start on The Return of the King in a few days. This is such an incredible story, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone younger than 13 as it is a very advanced book. For more info on this book follow the link here to my other page with a better review! I will only have the info for this book up on my blog for about a week or so more so hurry and check it out!

Book 5-8

¬†AMAZING!! It has a very good plot. Lots of plot twists. It is a really good book because the characters are finally in trouble the don’t get out of. Best book in the trilogy.
