I have worked pretty hard this year in English. These past few years English has been my worst subject but this year it was my best. I definitely think it has to do with the teacher and the people in the class. I really liked the people in my class this year it was really fun. We did get talkative at times but at least we’re not B4 (no offense to anyone in that class). I really surprisingly liked Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird. I wasn’t expecting to like those stories. Reading parts for Romeo and Juliet was especially fun. Advice for anyone next year: turn in assignments, don’t be talkative, and be nice. This was a great year!
I feel like people keep secrets from people to spare hurting feelings. Here is an example of 9th grade secrets, when you have a crush on someone and you tell someone, even if it is your best friend, it will most likely get around to them. I’m not saying you don’t need to trust your best friend but you need to make sure they are as scared as you are to talk to your crush. Many people will lie to their friends to make it so their friends don’t get hurt even if it is hurting themselves. Moral of the story, just tell the truth. Once you tell the truth you feel a lot better.
I think Friar Lawrence is trying to tell him they need to take it easy. But Romeo thinks it is just going to be easy. When you get married you can’t think everything is going to be easier. When you get married it sometimes will be easy but it sometimes will be hard. I think the advice he gave is pretty useful because he needs to know how his life is going to be in the future. I don’t know if Romeo and Juliet will take his advice. They will have to learn to take it slow and know it’s not going to be easier.
I think people are capable of hating others for no reason because they may be jealous of that person. If you are jealous of somebody it can lead you to dislike and/or hate them. I strongly dislike a person that has been pretty rude lately. I thought we were good friends until they went talking behind my back and saying rumors that weren’t true. Every time they see us together in pictures they get a disgusted look on their face. There is a way we can fix this by talking it out. I have tried but they don’t want to. It’s really hard to have someone you thought was friends with you to go behind your back and say mean things. We both need to learn to get behind this and apologize to each other.
I think that teachers should keep teaching Shakespeare. A lot of the time it will help students with their confidence in reading and writing. Sometimes kids won’t understand the words at first but that’s okay. Soon enough they will understand the flow of the way he writes and how he uses the different words in sentences. A lot of his most famous plays are read by high schoolers and that could be one of the reasons they are so popular nowadays. When people read Shakespeare’s works it has them relate to some of the emotions and what the characters feel.
I know that William Shakespeare wrote plays and synopsis’s. There were some tragedies and some comedies. Some of his famous plays are Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Merchant of Venice, Macbeth, and Hamlet. I was in the play Much Ado About Nothing in September. We only had 28 rehearsals to get lines memorized and blocking done (Which if you don’t know is hard for a Shakespeare play). It was super fun though. We set it in the 1940s and it was probably one of my favorite shows I have done. It was about these people who hate each other but are secretly in love and there is a lot of stuff that happens. I have read part of Merchant of Venice and it was really interesting. I think studying Shakespeare will help us understand what words people used in that time period. The pictures I chose are of a Macbeth book cover or poster and our Much Ado about Nothing costumes.
Self assessing will help you in life by helping you know what you’re doing right and what you’re doing wrong. When you self assess you fix your mistakes and learn from them. If you know you did most things right but one thing wasn’t you will want to fix that one thing to make it better. It helps in your occupation because you know how to do things at work and you can be your own problem solver if something goes wrong. At home it will help you get stuff done easier without complaining. If you realize that your relationship or house needs fixing you can figure that out yourself so people don’t have to tell you what to do all the time. I put a picture of a rubix cube to show a problem being solved.
I’m proud of most of my grades last term. I need to work on making things up for days I missed in class. If I’m absent I am going to go to the teacher as soon as I get back and get the work that we did that day. I will try as hard as I can to not miss a lot of school unless absolutely necessary because it will affect my grade. I am going to try to get no less than a B and I am going to check skyward 3 times a week. I want to get better at studying and not procrastinating, I will start studying a week in advanced before tests and quizzes.
Going into this book I was someone who judged the book by its cover not knowing what is was about. The first few chapters were kind of boring and I didn’t really like them but as the plot thickened, the book got better. I really liked the adventures that Dill, Jem, and Scout went on together as friends. I really liked how the mockingbird tied into Tom Robinson and Boo Radley and the symbolism it showed. My favorite chapters are the last few chapters where Halloween happens because the story got really intense during that time. I also liked the missionary circle because it sounds like something my friends and I would do. It ended up being a better book than expected and I highly recommend it to people, even if you don’t like to read. The movie was also really good and I recommend that too.
My quote was: “If there’s just one kind of folks, why can’t they get along with each other? If they’re all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other?”
Jem said this when he was talking about Boo Radley and how he wants to stay locked up inside all day. They all thought that Boo was being locked up without a choice but then they thought that Boo wants to stay inside. I think this quote is pretty good. It talks about how if people are alike, why can’t we just get a long. I have the same question. If you don’t like someone there has to be a valid reason. If they killed your whole family, then yeah that’s a reason to dislike/ hate someone. But if they didn’t do anything wrong and accidentally bumped into the hall one time or made fun of your name then that isn’t a good reason. Everyone should be friends.
