What I don’t know…

I don’t know much about a lot of people in my class. I don’t know if all of them play sports or instruments. Or what their favorite class or their favorite teacher. I don’t know about their family’s and what they like to do in there spare time. If their busy or bored. If they are always early, late or right on time. I don’t know if they play video games or cook. I don’t know their favorite food to eat and their least favorite food.

Work Will Work When Wishy Washy Wishing Will Not

At the beginning of second semester I made a goal to get better at understanding the reading we did in class, do better at annotating papers with ROAM and Predict and read about 30-35 books. I think that this semester when we read articles and To Kill a Mockingbird I feel like I have been able to pay attention and understand the reading. My annotating with ROAM and Predict has gotten a lot better as well. I have read about 20 books this year and i’m getting close to getting more. My grade has gotten better since last semester and hope that last term goes well.Related image

What Makes a Person Great?

I think many people are great and that a lot of people have the potential to be great. I think that great people have many of the attributes that are in the poem “If-“ by Rudyard Kipling in 1865-1936. I really liked the part when it says “If you can meet Triumph and Disaster, And you can treat those two impostors just the same;” I like it because triumph can get to you and make you think your higher than others and disaster can ruin everything for you and you could loose things that are important, Rudyard Kipling is saying that you should treat them both the same even though they are opposites. I think that is a great attribute to have.

To Kill a Mockingbird Review

To Kill a Mockingbird, is all about a little girl named Scout and her family, Jem her older brother, her father Atticus, her best friend Dill, her neighborhood and everyone really in her town or close by. There are many twists and turns in this book that are very unexpected or surprising. In the book there are many life lessons taught many taught by Atticus, Scouts father. Many people say that everyone at some point should read this book, I agree I think it is a very good book it is a lot more exciting than I thought it would be. I think this book lived up to its reputation. I really like the way Harper Lee wrote this book because you kind of need to think more to get what it might be saying she doesn’t come right out and tell you what happens.

I didn’t really like the movie because it didn’t have everything the book had and it made it a little less exciting. I really liked the book a lot better than the movie but then again it would have been hard to put all of that into a two hour movie. So they did well with what they did put into it. My favorite part in the movie was the trial because I really liked that part int he book and it was fun to watch it. They left out a lot of the very important parts like Ms. Maudies house caught on fire. I really liked the book better though.

Good stuff

I think one of the most interesting things some one has said in this chapter is when Jem and Scout are in Jems room and Jem says that there are four types of people the ordinary kind, the Cunninghams, the Ewells and the blacks. Scout answers back to this with what I think is a very profound response “If there’s just one kind of folks, why can’t they get along with each other? If they’re all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other?” I think this is very important because it is that way there aren’t four types of people there is just one and for some reason they are trying to hurt each other when they are all just the same.

An Authority on Courage – Grandma Sandylee

Hello, my name is Sandylee and I’ve had to make tough decisions that I needed courage to take on. I think that to have courage you need to make a list of all the good and bad things that come from making that decision. You have to be okay with the bad things that come with it and have courage to take it and not regret it. You have to have courage to do things you might be uncomfortable with but after you make a decision you will most likely be very happy with the decision you’ve made.

Real Courage

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, Atticus, Scout and Jem’s father says “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do”. What I think of this definition Atticus gives is a really good, I like the part where he says you will rarely win but you begin anyway. I think that Jem really needs to think about what Atticus is saying to have the courage to go and read to Mrs. Dubose.

In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem Finch and a lawyer takes the case of defending a black man against a white mans word. The family is getting a lot of hate and rude comments about how he should not be doing this and that he is a terrible person, even that he is ruining the family. I think this tells us as readers a lot about Atticus’s character, personality and beliefs. In the book Atticus says “The main one is, if I didn’t I couldn’t hold my head up in town, I couldn’t represent the country in legistlature, I couldn’t even tell you or jem not to do something again.”

To Kill a Mocking Bird so Far

To Kill a Mocking Bird so far…. I like the book, its very interesting and sometimes your at the edge of your seat wondering whats going to happen next. I’ve never read a book set in this time period so I like that I have to imagine what it would’ve been like to be there. I like how the author describes the characters and places and gives them all many different beliefs. The characters are very exciting to imagine like Scout, Jem and Dill they are all so different but also so much alike. I think it will start to get more exciting as we read.

Climbing into Other Peoples Skin

In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. The character Atticus tells Scout  “Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. He is meaning she needs to try to see things from the other persons point of view and see how that person feels and sees things. It is like the saying “walking in someone else’s shoes”. When Atticus tells Scout that she doesn’t really understand it really she is kind of confused. I think the whole idea of climbing into someone else’s skin and walking around in is important cause we should try and see how things are from other peoples point of view and understanding what they understand and feel.
