As a ninth grader this year I have improved with writing stories and writing in general. I have also gotten a lot better at reading fluently, I used to just kinda stutter a lot but as the year has gone by I’ve become a much better reader. Other than that I haven’t really changed much or accomplished much I’ve just kinda been waiting for the year to end and be done with this lame school. I have gotten a lot better grades though so I guess that’s good. This year went by a lot faster than all the others though and I’m happy I won’t have to come back her for educational purposes so yeye.
I think that people have secrets that they know could hurt someone but they don’t want that person to know but they want to tell other people and then that person tells other people and it causes the Domino Effect and in the end the person the secret was about knows the “secret” and who made it. Teenagers especially can’t keep secrets to themselves and I think that if they thought about the possible damage it could do to your friendship with that person or what it could do to other people, there wouldn’t be as many secrets going around.
In Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence tells them to “love moderately”. I think he means that they need to understand that they caught feelings for each other so fast and that they may not have those feelings for each other always. They are so young and everything happens so fast. Everything can end just as fast and they need to be ready for that. I don’t think that they really take that advice because they are so young and don’t really care they are just being in the moment and just want to get married already.
Sometimes there are some people that when you’re around them they just kinda give of that energy that you just aren’t going to like being around that person. Sometimes it’s just one person sometimes it’s a lot of people. When you are at school you are constantly surrounded by people whether you know them or not. And there is always going to be those people that are negative all the time. When there is people like that just don’t be around them and don’t let them fill you with their negative things because then that can make you negative and so on, it’s the domino effect and all we can do to stop it is not put ourselves around those negative people and try to only surround ourselves with positive things. Hatred can be from small things that don’t really make sense or it can be from things that can be super personal. With me, in my old neighborhood I grew up with my family not liking our neighbors family and I was really good friends with one of them and it was hard because most of the time when I would ask if i could go hangout with him my parents would say no and whenever I would ask why they would just say that they don’t like that family. I try not to let my family’s opinions on people decide if I don’t like them or not.
I think that we should continue to teach Shakespeare in schools, we can pull many good life lessons from his stories and it’s a new challenge for students if they want to read something that’s probably out of their reading level and they want a challenge. Plus, Shakespeare is High School curriculum. By reading Shakespeare we can gain a greater knowledge of correct vocabulary and grammar. People who are new to Shakespeare are most likely going to run into a word that they don’t know, so they look it up or ask someone who does know what it means and they are then expanding their vocabulary just by reading.
Self assessing is a good way for you to notice what things you are good at and what things you are bad at doing. This is good because you will know what topics you need to try harder to improve in so that you will be able to make more proficient work and you won’t make that mistake anymore. This could be used anywhere, it doesn’t have to be confined just to school, you can self assess with most things and if you notice that at work or something else that you are struggling with a specific thing you can find different ways that you can improve.
This term I am going to try harder to stay on top of my work for not only English but all of my classes. I am going to try harder to get everything done as soon as I can because last term I have definitely been procrastinating in a couple of my classes which I am going to try to change this term because this is the end of the school year and so far I’ve done good but I need to make sure that I don’t fail right at the end. I also want to spend more time on my homework when I get some.
“They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it–seems that only children weep (243).” This is powerful because it’s kinda saying that the jury convicted a black man and they will continue doing it. Jem, Scout, and Dill were the ones that were sad when they were walking home. None of the white people are affected besides the Finches. I guarantee that if a white person was convicted for something he didn’t do all of the other white people would freak out and try everything they can to change what happened and get the person that was convicted out of jail and drop his charges and sentence but when it happens to a black they don’t show any emotion
When I think of courage and integrity I think of my older brother who moved out when he was 18. He did it so he could see what life was like when you don’t have to worry about paying full rent for a house or apartment or needing to know what to eat where at home your mother or father is most likely cooking or preparing food for the family. He was on his own with acceptance of some roommates here and there. Last year he lost his job and had to move back in with us until he is financially stable again to the point that he will be able to move into an apartment or maybe even buy a house. It takes a lot of courage to go out into the world on your own because then you realize that life is a lot harder than it seems as a little kid.
So in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus says “Mr. Cunningham’s basically a good man”. In my opinion, yes he may be a good man but trying to kill someone doesn’t justify calling it a blind spot. I mean we’re talking about taking someone’s life away short. Walter Cunningham sr. would’ve killed Atticus to get to Tom Robinson so that he could kill him as well because the people don’t like him because they think he did some wrongs that really, hes only being accused of so he’s not actually in the wrong he is only being looked upon that way because he is black.
