The book Cress by Marissa Meyer, takes place in multiple different places but I am going to describe the three main places the main character Cress is generally. The first place that Cress is, is her sata-light. In the book she lives alone in a small room that is consistent of her bed, a big window that turns into a computer and a bathroom. Cress describes it as lonely and heart braking. She has to stay up there all alone and has fallen in love with the blue planet. Living in a sata-light affects Cress in a very negative way. She is alone and then has all the time in the world to do what she wants. That makes her not quite as sociable, and a little awkward around people. She is always lonely and wants to get out of her room.
The second place that cress goes is the dessert. “No just a lot of sand. It’s kind of orangish-gold, with hints of pink, and I can see tiny clouds of it floating above the ground, like…like smoke.”
“Piles up in lots of hills?”
“Yes, exactly! And it’s beautiful.” Since Cress has never been to earth and it has always been her dream to go she thinks that everything is breath taking and that is how the dessert is described. Cress then journeys across the dessert with captain Carswell Thorne who she has already fallen in love with. But they soon run out of supplies and the dessert takes a turn for the worst. Cress describes it as a hollow place were everything looks the same. They then run in to a group of people who take them to a city where Thorne and Cress are reunited with Thorne’s crew. The desert help’s Cress realize that everything isn’t all cupcakes and rainbows on earth. She learns not to cry and how to be a bigger person.
The last place I am going to describe is the town that they go to complete Cinder (Thorne’s friend) ‘s plan to kidnap the emperor. They go to New Begjing. There cress gets to experience new feelings such as friends, new clothes, real shoes and the terror of what she got herself into. The City is full of buildings and people and things to do and it is beautiful and new only the way that it can be for the first time you see anything. The place makes Cress once again remember how wonderful earth is again. It also prepares her for what she signed up for in ganging up with Thorne.
