Source: I found this word smelting in the book Mysteries of COVE, Fires of Invention, by J. Scott Savage, on page 59.

Context: Here is the sentence I found the word in, “Walking down the room, he admired dozens of schematics attached to the walls–detailed plans for everything from iron-smelting equipment to air-purification systems.”

In Their Words: The definition from the dictionary for the word smelting is to extract (metal) from its ore by a process involving heating and melting.

In my words: The word smelting is to melt metal from its ore.
