Everyone has or has had secrets and I think that the reason people keep secrets and are reluctant to share them is because they are afraid to to let people know the truth. Being honest with someone can often be hard or embarrassing because you don’t want people to know the truth. Talking to other people can be the best thing for us because they can talk to us about our problem and help us to get help. This can especially apply to junior high and high school students because they have social standards that they have to live up to.
The only books of Shakespeare I have read were King Henry IV and Mid Summers Nights Dream. I know that William Shakespeare lived in England and wrote many plays and sonnets. I also know that Shakespeare’s stories can be very confusing and challenging to read. The book Henry IV took me a very long time to get through and understand I know that Shakespeare’s work was very popular and they were presented in the Globe Theater which got burned down by a prop cannon that fired at the thatch roof. I also know that some of Shakespeare’s plays were presented to the queen of England at the time.
I think that the Capulet family and Montague family were able to keep hating each other because everyone they were involved with hated the other family so it escalated. It is like to mob effect we talked about in To Kill A Mockingbird were one person hates something so they talked to other people and they start to hate it to and everyone ends up hating that thing. In Romeo and Juliet the families could also be mad at each other as a scapegoat for there problems. I think that the families had no real reason to hate each other.
I think that schools should teach something other than Shakespeare. Shakespeare is not a bad book to read because it pushes students out of there comfort zone at teaches old English to students but it only shows the culture and lifestyle of a white man in England. Shakespeare’s work was written hundreds of years ago and is outdated. Shakespeare wrote his stories to be presented as a play and not read behind a desk. Shakespeare is also very boring and not that interesting. Ditching Shakespeare gives students a chance to have a broad spectrum of writings.
Self assessment is to look back at something you’ve done and see your progress. The skill to self assess something will help you in school because when you self assess yourself you can see what you have done well and what you have done wrong and need to fix. Self assessment helps to improve the skill you are working on. Self assessment is helpful in any situation and not just in school. Self assessment is especially important when you finish school and get a job because you can see what the problems you need to fix are and where you need to improve.
In the book To kill a Mockingbird it says real courage is “when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.” This means that real courage is going through something hard knowing it is hard. I like this definition that Atticus uses because most people think that courage is knights in shining armour going into battle but real courage can just be someone facing there trials. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird there is an old woman who is going through an addiction an she shows real courage because she goes through not taking her drug.
I liked To Kill a Mockingbird. I liked how it showed the view of a child going through life back then. To Kill a Mockingbird really makes you think of people and race. I like how it shows that everyone is the same and human no matter wealth or race and everyone should be treated the same. When I first started reading To Kill a Mockingbird I thought it was the most boring book but when I got into it I started to enjoy it. If one of my friends were starting to read To Kill a Mockingbird I would tell them that it gets way more exciting after the beginning.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus says “They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it–seems that only children weep (243).” This quote means that the white people who killed Tom in the book didn’t care that Tom Robinson was human they couldn’t see past his race and would kill him because he was different. The last part of the quote means that children are innocent and will see past everyone’s differences and race and see that everyone needs to be treated fairly because they are all just human.
The first person who comes to mind when I think of integrity is my grandpa because when he has been faced with decisions that test his integrity he seems to always do the right thing. I think my grandpa would say something like this, ” Choosing to do the right thing can sometimes be difficult. Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. It is important to always choose the right thing even when people are not looking because it keeps you an honest person. Sometimes it takes courage to do the right thing when people are watching.”
In to Kill a Mockingbird we see Mr Cunningham and a mob come to the jail to try to beat and hang Tom Robinson. Atticus said that “Mr Cunningham is basically a good man, he just his blind spots” and then Jem said “Don’t call that a blind spot. He’da killed you last night.” I agree with Atticus’s point of view. I think that everybody has good in them and we shouldn’t be so quick to judge. Mr Cunningham was doing what he thought was right just in the wrong way. I see why Atticus calls Mr Cunningham’s actions blind spots because he was just trying to do the right thing.
