Yes I do think Friar Lawrence is trying to tell them about their relationship. He wants to make sure they treat each other good. He tells them to love moderately and that’s a good idea because they shouldn’t be overly protective of each other or not be protective enough. They should be in the middle of those two. They probably wont take the advice because they’re basically still kids. Teenagers don’t want to do things when someone tells them to. In order for them to follow the advice they will have to treat each other the right way.

I think that shakes spear is boring and really hard but it’s not going to be the end of the world if we have to learn about his writing. In some ways we can relate to him. I think if the teacher makes the assignments not too hard and helps us understand shakespear it won’t be too bad. It is a challenge but everyone can use a challenge at some point. I haven’t really ever read shakespear so I can’t say if it sucks or not. People say it’s hard but that’s how it’s supposed to be so it makes sense why they say that.
I learned a lot from the assignment. I realized we’re not all that different from each other. Most times we’re more alike then we would think. I also noticed that we often think everyone else has “perfect” lives by looking at someone’s instagram when really nobody is perfect. It was also a fun assignment it wasn’t super hard like an essay. Like Mr. Green said it gives us an opportunity to get to know new people even if you don’t end up being friends with them. We’re all going through life together and sometimes it can get hard. That’s mostly everything I learned.
I don’t know much about people in this class. I think we all see the outward appearance of everyone and maybe assume things about them that most of the time it isn’t true. Everyone has a different story. We need to all take time to get to know one another and once we do that we may notice a lot of us have a similar story. We will all stop judging each other once we understand where the other person is coming from. We may look at someone and assume something from the way the look but a lot of times what we “see” isn’t always true.
There’s a lot of thing’s I could really work on but I think I need to work on reading more books. I’ve finished two books this year and I really want to read at least one or two more books before the year is over. First I will find some really good books that I think I would like. Next I’ll try to make time to read outside of English class. I go to my cabin a lot on the weekends and so that would be a good time to read. Last I will actually read the books! Hopefully I can finish my goal!
There’s many qualities a great person has. Some I’ve noticed are treating everyone the way you would want to be treated. This is something Atticus does really well in how to kill a mocking bird. In the poem we read I really liked how it said “If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you.” That means even when someone tells you that you can’t do it or you wont be able to do it well that you over look that. Also in the poem it says “If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue.” That means you can talk with anyone even if they’re not your friends and you still act the same around them.
To kill a mocking bird is mostly about 2 kids (scout and jem) and their dad (atticus) that live in Alabama along with their friend dill. The book talks a lot about what life is like in their town Maycomb. Their neighbor Boo Radley plays a big part as well as the trial. It starts off by saying “When he was nearly thirteen, my brother jem got his arm badly broken.” It gets complicated because I didn’t see how boo and the trial and the dog really had to do with each other. I think when the book was new more people probably understood it more than we do now. I think the book does not live up to it’s reputation it was kinda confusing. I do think for a book that old it’s pretty good. I would recommend the book to really anyone who enjoys reading.
I think the movie and the book are almost two different things. The film did get the main characters and the basic idea. It strengthen the story by keeping the most important stuff. I don’t have a favorite part but I think they could’ve done a better job on when jem and scout are walking and bob ewell attacks them. The biggest thing that was left out was when Mrs. Maudie’s house catches on fire. I would recommend the film to my grandpa because he’s pretty old and would enjoy a black and white film.
I chose the phrase “Don’t fool yourselves–it’s all adding up and one of these days we’re going to pay the bill for it” To me it means the way most white people are treating black people its gonna finally catch up to them and it’ll be white people’s turns for what they did. Atticus also mentions right after he said that “and I hope it doesn’t happen in your lifetime. Atticus and his kids treat black people like everybody else and so he’s hoping his kids wont have to pay the price for something someone else did. He knows at some point something will have to change.
I think courage is doing something you wouldn’t normally be comfortable doing but you do it anyway because you know its the right thing to do. Like in the book Atticus has Jem go read to Mrs. Dubose even though Jem really didn’t want to. It was the nice thing to do. I also think Atticus has a lot of courage to defend the black man even though almost the whole town doesn’t agree with it. In the book it also says instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. He’s saying having courage isn’t only fighting it’s doing other things as well.
The book isn’t a bad book but not a super great one either. I’ve read better books and so I’m kinda wondering what about the book is so great to make everyone is the U.S. read it. I do like how the book is somewhat realistic. I think something will happen with Boo later on in the book that’s like really good and whatever that is makes the book a whole lot better. Right now in the book I don’t think it lives up to the hype. Nothing too exciting has happened. I expect to actually see what boo looks like later on in the book.
