What’s the Deal with Stories?

Picture this: a young man with nothing to do with his life walks to his bedroom and writes a story. It’s not a true story, its literally a made up, fake thing he thought off the top of his head. He gives it to a publisher and now its a real life book that people are saying is “changing their lives”, and he’s loaded. What’s the deal with that?? Why do people love those fake, made up stories? To be 100% honest, I don’t really know. But the best answer, I think, is that we love to have someone to relate to. We want this fake world, because the grass is always greener right? We, as humans, want exactly what we don’t have, or more of what we do. If you are reading a book about a kid similar to you, you will relate to the character and understand their pain or joy. That makes us feel understood. If you read a book about someone not like you, you will be fascinated at the difference in yourselves. We want something to relate to and stories is a great way to do it.
