Friar Lawrence says that they kinda need to chill a little. Especially Romeo who is either super depressed or crazy happy and that he has to find the middle road for their marriage to work. Romeo and Juliet are not moderate people and need to take the advice they are given. They’re rushing everything and committing to get married so fast when they really don’t know each other very well and they aren’t thinking of the consequences and problems that could come up after everyone finds out their married. They should take a chill pill and slow it down and figure out their future together where they can be happy.
I can safely say that I don’t actually hate anybody because that just seems so harsh and sad, but there is definitely someone i strongly dislike. I don’t always but the disliking occurs more than the liking with this person and its rough. I believe my reasoning for not liking this person makes sense and that others could agree. I’ve tried many times to get past this strong disliking because its not fun to always be arguing with someone or mad at them, but getting over it is not an easy task. I think to get over hating someone, a person has to just look outside themselves and see the good in another person no matter how deep down it is. People have to realize that we don’t fully understand what someones going through or their thoughts and intentions and learn to love them anyways. This is something I need to do better at in general but specifically with this person to get past this disliking.
I think schools should continue to teach Shakespeare. Although it can be pretty boring at times and its very difficult to understand, its a great way to challenge students and can be very useful in the future. There is also a lot we can learn about life from Shakespeare’s writings, and though they were written about 400 years ago, they can still apply to our lives today. Being able to say you’ve read and understood Shakespeare is also very admirable, and makes you sound very smart. Reading it can also be a fun experience if students can keep an open mind and have a positive attitude about the whole idea of it.
I’ve learned that you never know what might be going on in someone’s life, and the only way to truly say you know someone is by taking the time to have a conversation with them. I also learned that everyone has different backgrounds, and you can learn really important life lessons by hearing stories of experiences others have had. I don’t know a lot of people at PGJH on a personal level, but I know that everyone has a story and that taking the time to get to know and learn about others can teach you a lot. The people of this world are pretty dang cool, and I can’t wait to continue to meet more and more of them.
This year has gone pretty well for me. I’ve been going the extra mile for most my assignments and getting good grades. I think I’ve improved a lot at responding to questions and using quotes as evidence, and also annotating articles. One thing I have majorly struggled with though is reading. I get distracted very easily and don’t focus and understand what I’m reading a lot. I also have a hard time connecting and really getting into books. In order to improve this I need to take the time to find books I’m actually interested in reading. I could also review what I read from a page before moving on so that I stay focused and have an easier time knowing whats going on.
A great person is someone who knows that they want and the kind of person they are, and uses that to make other people happier. A great person stands up for what they know it right and looks out for others too when they need their help. I think one of the biggest attributes a great person must have is a willingness to put other peoples needs before their own and put in the time and effort to make someone else’s life better everyday. There are many great people in this world, and you know a great person when you meet one because of the way they treat everyone life they truly matter.
The Book: The main theme or message the author wants us to get by reading this book is that you have to see people who they truly are. It starts with two little kids, Jem and Scout, and explains they’re trials and discoveries of a period of a couple years. Times are not easy for them or their father, Atticus, who is put to a very difficult task, but the family and the people of Maycomb county where they live. Over the years, people have come to love this book and everything it teaches. Though personally it wasn’t my favorite book I’ve ever read, due to the slowness of the many of the chapters, I did really love the point it gets across and I think everyone needs to learn this concept and work on it better in their daily lives. I would recommend this book to everyone to eventually read.
The Film: The movie for the book definitely includes all of the most important parts. It also portrayed the characters in a way that made perfect sense and helped me to learn their personalities a little bit better. It also helps watchers to feel the intensity of specific moments that they may not have felt while reading the book. The best scene is at the very end when you get to see the interaction between Scout and someone who was not particularity accepted in the community. It would have been nice to have seen more of Aunt Alexandra and the other ladies of Maycomb, just to emphasize how different the perspectives of the people were. Other than that though, I enjoyed the movie and also think that it is a great thing for everyone to watch at some point in their lives.
On page 246, Miss Maudie is talking about the impact Atticus had made, and the fact that he was the only one that could have changed the peoples minds. She says, “We’re making a step.” It’s just a baby-step, but it’s a step.” She mentions that it took the jury such a long time to decide the verdict, and points out that it may be the start of a movement. The minds of the people were still not completely changed, but Atticus made progress in helping them to really consider the innocence of Tom Robinson. Miss Maudie feels that though it is a little step they have made, it is still a step, and that was more than anyone else had made so far when it came to the the white people’s thoughts on the black people.
This is a very difficult decision, but it is ultimately up to you to decide which route you want to take. You have two choices, be brave and go for it, or back down and take the easy way out. Even when all odds are stacked up against you and it seems there’s no possible way you can win, you have to do what you know is the right thing and not be scared of the consequence. You have to believe in this thing so much that you have the courage to face whatever may happen afterwards, because if you don’t it won’t be worth the trouble. If you truly believe in something then there is nothing that can stop you from making whatever decision you make the right one.
I have never thought about courage in this way before. but I really like the way Atticus explains it and I think it digs much deeper into what true courage is then how we normally use it. I’ve always defined courage as something scaring you or making you nervous but you do it anyways. Atticus is pretty much saying even when it seems like there is absolutely no hope, you still go for it and never give up. He’s saying it wont always work out but if you don’t have the courage to even try then there’s not even a possibility it could. I love this way of talking about courage.
