Post #4: Story or Poem Analysis

The poem is about an elephant traveling across Laos. The poem describes how the elephant looks and moves. It mentions the symbolism behind the elephant. There was a lot of good imagery in this poem. The author used words like “imitating” “dawdling” and “rising” to describe the elephant’s mannerisms and behavior.

I noticed that the author used a different line for every description they gave. I think this way of writing helps emphasize the importance of what they’re trying to describe. I think the main idea of this text was to show the importance and symbolism of the elephant.

Blog Post #3: Laos Dam Collapse

In an article by Bbc published in 2018 it covers a dam collapse in Laos. At least 20 people were killed and 100 went missing in the flooded villages. The dam was under-construction in south-east Laos when it collapsed. The collapse sent flash floods through six villages and villagers were evacuated. More than 6,600 people have been made homeless as a result of the flooding. Officials have been trying to rescue stranded villagers by boat.

“The dam that collapsed is part of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric power project, which involves Laotian, Thai and South Korean firms.”

The Laos government has began an ambitious dam-building operation to become the “battery of Asia” with 46 operational hydroelectric power plants in 2017, and 54 more under construction. Laos also plans to build 54 more electricity transmission lines and 16 substations
