The big take aways on both books for me is that we need to try to be more fair, and kind to one another. Just because they may seem weird, or you just don’t like them doesn’t mean they are any less of a person. We all deserve kindness and respect to some extent. The blacks in each book were all good people, they minded their own business and tried to get by. I admire the people who stood up for what they believed in like Miss Skeeter, who tried to get out to the world that blacks are just as good as whites. Aibaleen was kind and all she wanted was for things to just be ok, she looked out for others and what she believed she didn’t doubt the whole time. She wouldn’t let the whites get inside her head, and that’s hard when almost everyone hates you all around you.
