Quote: Finch: “I do it because it reminds me to be here, that I’m still here and I have a say in the matter.”
Context: Finch found this support group for teens who are thinking about, or have attempted, or have survived suicide. It’s called Life Is Life. So he gets in “Little Bastard” (that’s what he calls it dont @ me) and drives a state away to Ohio to attend one of the meetings. He walks in and there are two tables against each other and some water and cookies. He sits and waits and once everyone is seated they all go around and say “_____ is life” or whatever can fit into that.
One of the reasons he drove a state away to this meeting is because no one he knows would be there. But this girl from his school just happens to be there and they avoid each other the whole meeting. They both also use fake names. But after finch catches up with her and he says he won’t tell anyone. He asks if she still thinks about killing herself and she says yes. Then she asks him if he does too, if he was really going to jump off the bell tower and if he gets tired of people talking about him, she asks him why. That’s when he says, “I do it because it reminds me to be here, that I’m still here and I have a say in the matter.”
This makes me think: I chose this because I guess we all need something that makes us feel alive, right? Then it made me think about why I’m here and what makes everything worth it.
