Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why is a book by Jay Asher that is about a girl who kills herself. The girl who kills herself (Hannah) leaves tapes for 13 people who are the reasons why she killed herself. Clay Jensen receives the box of tapes and is really confused of why he is on the tapes because he never thought he did anything wrong to Hannah. He actually had always been crushing on her. So the book is him following these tapes and a map she left behind around town to figure out exactly why she ended her life. I loved this book because I feel like it takes something that people are so scared to talk about and gives it a story that we never get to hear about. I think society kind of stereotypes suicide as wanting attention and that people who do it are crybabies. This book gave a lot more depth to the emotions and motives behind suicide and I think it’s really important for young adults to see that side of it. I honestly would recommend it to anyone but would warn that it is a little graphic and does have some strong language. I LOVE this book.
