Book Club Response 2

*Spoiler Warning

I have finished the book, and it’s pretty amazing. Yael has achieved her goal and finally killed Hitler, but it turns out it wasn’t actually Hitler. It was a doppelganger who had the same ability as Yael, who could change their appearance at will. But nobody else knows about it, so Operation Valkerie, a plan put together by a resistance force to cripple the Third Reich, is already in motion. We each talked about something that we thought was interesting. I talked about a flashback she had, about when she first discovered her ability to skin shift. she had to hide her ability from a German doctor, who had been experimenting on her.

This book highlights what might have happened if we had lost WWII. The Axis Powers rule the world, with the United States hiding from the rest of the world. Yael is one of few who survived the concentration camps. She joined a resistance to help right the unspeakable wrongs committed by the Germans.

It started in 1939, sparked by the Nazi’s invasion of Poland. It lasted six years, and millions of lives were lost.
