In Laos even though the country is super small their population is 7,246,763 people. Most of these people live in the lowland plains and Mekong river valley where is it fertile. Vientiane is the capital of the country and 562,244 people live there being one of the largest city. Another major city is Pakse and has a lot of things to do for tourism. You can tour the heritage museum, shop for souvenirs, and watch the boat race festival. The biggest languages spoken there are lao and thai. Laos is a very poor country 80 percent of the people live on $2.50 or even less than that. Many of the people lack roads, water and electricity. Farming is a big part of their country, their top five crops are rice, vegetables, sugarcane, starchy roots and tobacco. Laos is very high at risk for disease that come because they don’t have the best medical stuff. They use oil, hydropower, coal and biomass for energy. The biggest religion practiced in Laos is Theravada Buddhism. Laos has a lot of historical events that took place that include, in 1560 the king moved the capital from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. Another event that took place is 1775-1800 the Siamese get part of southern Laos but soon win it back in the later 1800’s. Some facts about their culture is they love art and music. Another big part of their culture is field hickey and soccer, they have competed in the Olympics since 1980 and was one of the founding participates.
