When I read a book, I focus on the main character more than the story. If its: how the character is feeling, how they’re affected by a situation, and what they do to fix the problem/situation. I care about the characters that talk funny, are funny, make a bad decision that makes the book turn around completely, or the ones I have sympathy for, even the antagonists. The author can make a sensitive character and gain all your sympathy, or the author could make a character that you hate. The characters can change how you read a book. Having good characters contributes to a book’s reputation.
