Five Facts About Poverty in Thailand

i. 69 million. Most people live in Bangkok.

iii. Another major city is Samut Prakan with a population of 388,920.

iv. The major language is Thai with numerous different dialects to go along with it.

v. The life expectancy is 75 for the total population. There are 30,000 to 50,000 HIV AIDS related fatalities every year. 69.4% of the population is unemployed and only roughly 6.7 million people live 20% above the national poverty line. Thailand consumes approximately 168.30 billion kWh each year.

vi. The major religion is Buddhism.

vii. Absolute monarchy ended in 1932. On October 13th, 2016, King Bhumibol Adulyadej died after 70 years on the throne, he is replaced by his son.

viii. Just more than 38% of the population have had some secondary education. Poverty in Thailand has gone down from 21% in 2000 to about 12.6% in 2012.
