Now that we have read 5 short stories it is time to select the garbage’s favorite, so I have chosen ‘The Story of an Hour’ by Kate Chopin.
The Story of an Hour is about a young woman who is told that her husband has died, and then realizes that as a widow she is much more free than she has ever been before. However, mere moments after she realizes this and emerges from her room with victory in her eyes her husband is revealed to still be alive and well. The mere shock of him still being alive and the realization that that tiny taste of true freedom has been removed from before her causes her to have a heart attack and die.
Personally, I enjoyed this story because at first she is scared of this strange feeling that has come over her; which I can relate with as I am scared of just about everything. Kate Chopin used a lot of oxymorons and metaphors within her story to help all us readers visualize what was going on within the span of this hour, which I really appreciated because sometimes doing those forms of authors craft just feels like an icy burn on paper.
I hope that that’s enough for you Mr. Green! Bye ya’ll!
